OUR WINES
Our wine is a pure expression of our spectacularly sited vineyard, its altitude, climate and soil. With minimal intervention, it is unmistakably Pinot Noir, with complexity and liveliness. This wine has a long life ahead of it. While the 2023 and 2024 Gibbston Back Road is drinking beautifully now, we believe it will continue to develop for at least seven years.
2025 Vintage Pinot Noir
Gibbston Back Road is a boutique wine that reflects an artisan style of grape growing and winemaking from the spectacular region of Central Otago. Attention to detail ensures the wine is crafted to express the purity of Gibbston's altitude, climate and soil.
Aromas of plum, cherry, and cranberry combine with aromas of wild herbs, violets, and a touch of orange blossom. On the palate, the red and blue fruits continue, with some wild berries and a hint of dark chocolate from the time in barrel. The wine has great balance, with the orange citrus acidity working with the dusty tannins to give structure and elegance.

The wine opens with aromas of red and blue fruits - strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries - with rose and violet floral notes. 10% whole bunch gives the wine a subtle herbal edge. On the palate, plums, cherries, and raspberries combine with a subtle smokey oak and clove and anise spice. Fresh acidity and fine tannins give the wine poise and texture, with a mid-weight on the palate and lingering finish. The wine was aged in French Oak Barriques for approximately 11 months, of which 21% was new oak.

Handpicked grapes from our Family Vineyard. Dark ruby with crimson hues. Fragrant with dark plum, berry coulis, violets, liquorice, cinnamon, char and tobacco notes. Plush entry with blueberries, plums, ripe cherry, christmas cake spice, tobacco and coffee. Silky with fine grain tannins, bright acidity and a long boysenberry finish. The wine was aged in French Oak barriques for approximately 10 months, of witch 12% was new oak.

The Gibbston Back Road Pinot Noir, Deep plum with garnet hues. Fragrant with plums, blackberries, boysenberries, chocolate, rose petals, violets, spice and a hint of vanilla. Silky entry with ripe dark berries and spicy plum pudding. Round and mouth filling with fine grained tannins and a lovely balance with a complex and long red berry finish with a touch of oak char.

The Gibbston Back Road Pinot Noir, dark purple with purple hues. Fragrant florals with violets, red cherries and black berry fruits, leather, spice and oak char. Rich and silky with sweet black plum, dark berries and nice minerality. Concentrated and elegantly textured with fine grained tannins and a lovely acidity. The finish is long with a hint of ripe mulberries and spice.
